Statik Selektah prepares for “Population Control’

Statik (@StatikSelekt) is putting together a heavyweight roster for his next album Population Control. A healthy mix of new comers and vets will round out his fourth solo effort. Sean Price, Styles P, Lil Fame of M.O.P., Talib Kweli, Saigon and Bun B share the spotlight with new blood like Joell Ortiz, Freddie Gibbs, Pill, The Kid Daytona, Mac Miller, Chris Webby, Dom Kennedy, Action Bronson, Jon Connor, XV, Josh Xantus, Skyzoo, Push! Montana, LEP Bogus Boys, Ea$y Money, Nitty Scott MC, and Rapsody. Expect Statik’s ShowOff family to have a presence on the project as well. Statik explains that the title speaks to thinning of the Hip Hop’s ever growing herd.

“Every person I meet is a rapper, DJ or makes beats,” Statik says of the title for the 18-track LP. “This is my way of saying who is legit from the new generation and I added a few of the OGs that still care about our music. This is a different sound from my previous albums. It’s fresh and younger, but still very raw. I’m excited to show the older rap heads how dope some of the new guys are, as well as show some of the kids following the new guys how the OGs get down.”

The first project from Showoff’s new deal with Duck Down, Population Control is in stores October 25th.
