DJ Khaled recently added Nas to the growing list of legends and artists that he’s interviewed on his Beats 1 radio show, We the Best Radio. Khaled met up with Esco a couple of weeks ago and amid sips of cognac and puffs on cigars, the two discussed music, the history of hip hop and whether the world will hear new music from Nas anytime soon. Running at nearly 40 minutes long, the interview gives fan an in-depth interview into Nas’ career, collaborations, inspirations and new projects.
Khaled brings up Biggie in the interview, after revealing that he saw a picture of the two rappers in the studio. Nas reveals that the Biggie originally wanted him on “Ready To Die” but when that didn’t work out, Biggie wanted Nas on a remix of “Gimme the Loot”. The two met in the studio but things didn’t go as planned. Nas admits to Khaled that he wasn’t able to come up with a verse and after watching Biggie throw down a fire freestyle on the beat, Nas “just went home”. Nas also talks his favorite albums, naming classics like John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme and Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life as musical inspirations. Nas doesn’t confirm a possible release date for his new album in the interview. He describes his creative process as a lot of “starting over” from “one month to the next” so it takes him a while to drop new projects. He does tell Khaled that the next time he’s on We the Best Radio, it’ll be because his album has finally dropped.
After his epic interview with Nas, Khaled’s “price went up” once more when he and Jay Z decided to go into business together. It looks like Jay Z will be managing the wildly popular DJ from now on. Jay Z, being the business man that he is, undoubtedly recognized Khaled’s major influence over music and music culture and wanted to be a “key” in Khaled’s ascension.The news was broadcasted via Khaled’s Snapchat and in an exclusive video from WSHH, we see the two music moguls sit down to make the news official.
