Nas has been making the media rounds including a turn on the stage at Coachella this weekend in the light of the 20th anniversary of Illmatic. His landmark debut is the subject of a documentary Time is Illmatic that takes a deep look into the building of the classic and its lasting effect. The feature-length piece will make hit the screen at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival on Wednesday, April 16 before making its way to your local theater.

The Hip Hop legend seems very happy with the project.

“I want to thank the Tribeca Film Festival for supporting the film with the incredible platform they’ve built over the years,” Nas explained in a press statement. “It’s an honor to premiere this film in my hometown. I also want to thank (director) One9 and (writer) Erik Parker for their persistence and hard work. Those guys and I come from the same place and era, which gives the doc an authenticity that is important to me. We wanted this film to represent the real, from the storyline all the way down to the directors and producers.”
