Drake Releases VIEWS

Drake created a cinematic moment last night with the release of his latest album. From the rollout of the album to the artwork, VIEWS is a motion picture.

With only a few listens in, it’s hard to categorize what we’ve actually received. I’m not a fan of 24- hour reviews, especially when we’re talking about an album by such an impactful artist like Drake. But, I do think it’s valid to analyze first impression emotions.

Drake’s Toronto-weather inspired album, as expressed through his interview on Beats1 with Zane Lowe, is a 20 song record that mainly features slower joints with dancehall influences. In between we hear some harder rap shit through songs like “Hype” and “Grammy’s”, but as expected, the focus is more so on the storytelling of the project. I’m still trying to figure out how the Canada winters and summers come into play with this narrative, but I’m definitely looking forward to living with this album and figuring out how it all comes together.
