Beyonce connects with Nicki Minaj for “Flawless” remix

Last night Beyoncé released a remix to her track ***Flawless with a feature from Nicki Minaj. This came as a surprise to many as no one suspected that a remix to the song was on its way. Earlier this week there were rumors claiming that the two were working on a song for Minaj’s new album.

This release reminds us all that Beyoncé can always shut the Internet down with new music without any fair warning signs. Back in December Beyoncé surprised the world by dropping her self-titled album unannounced. The album featured 14 songs and a visual album featuring the bonus track “Grown Woman” to accompany the audio album.

What came as a bigger surprise to listeners this time around is that Mrs. Knowles-Carter made a reference to the famous Solange and Jay Z elevator fight. Fans of the pair now jokingly call the scandal Solange-Gate in an attempt to point that it was as scandalous as Nixon’s Watergate. Beyonce sings on the remix, “We escalate up in this b*tch like elevators. Of course sometimes sh*t goes down when there’s a billion dollars on an elevator. Of course sometimes sh*t goes down when there’s a billion dollars on an elevator.”  It is almost as if Beyonce repeated the elevator line twice just in case someone did not hear her address the situation the first time.

The remix to ***Flawless is much different than the original version. The original version of the song sampled Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie’s Ted Talk on feminism. This time around Beyonce is less focused on feminism and telling all those who don’t believe in her to bow down. Beyonce made approached this track the way most current rappers would: with attitude an autotune. The pop diva and rapper Nicki Minaj can be heard bragging about their self-proclaimed flawlessness throughout the song.

The release of this track seemed like perfect timing since the American leg of the On The Run tour will soon be coming to an end and Nicki Minaj has an album set to be released soon. Check out the song and let us know what you think.
