BET locks down producers Salim and Mara Brock Akil

After the success of their original series “The Game”, TV producers Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil have entered in to a long term agreement to produce original programming for BET. BET announced the multi-year deal with the couple’s Akil Productions which includes “The Game” as well as original programing for the various branches of BET Networks.

“We’re thrilled to build on the very important relationship between our network and the Hollywood creative community, especially with two proven powerhouses in entertainment – Salim and Mara Brock Akil,” said Loretha Jones, President of Original Programming at BET Networks. “Through this partnership we hope to continue to bring our audience high quality content that reflects their lives and our communities.”

This is just the latest in success for the Akils. Previously Mara created and executive produced the hit series, Girlfriends, which currently airs on BET. They’ve also executive produced Mara’s creation The Game with Salim on board as director. Recently Salim made his feature film directorial debut with the #1 comedy Jumping The Broom.
