Even if you could care less about the dealings of large music corporations and businesses, following the “streaming wars” between giants like Apple, Tidal and Spotify has become increasingly important. In a day and age where an overwhelming majority of music is streamed, knowing which industry goliaths offer the most music and access to exclusive content is merely a form of self-preservation if you’re an avid music lover.

Apple, Spotify and Tidal are the three biggest names in streaming right now. While Spotify and Tidal have faced some serious set backs lately, Apple continues to grow and move forward at an alarmingly faster rate. Most recently, Apple acquired the ability to stream DJ mixes, mashups and remixes which was an undeniable victory in bringing more people over to Apple as a streaming service. Now, it looks like Apple is officially growing at the same rate as its competitor, Spotify. The Verge reports that the giant now has 13 million subscribers, which is 2 million more than what it had in February. While Spotify still has more total subscribers, Spotify is around 8 years old while Apple is less than a year old. With Drake’s album dropping exclusively on Apple Music this Friday along with Apple’s very smart acquisitions and offered services (Beats 1 Radio Show, The Pharmacy etc…), it’s only a matter of time before Apple outpaces its competitors on all fronts.

Only time will tell who will emerge as the victor of the streaming wars.
