Surviving in business is never an easy feat. And surviving is something that 50 Cent knows something about. According to a recent sit down with Business Insider at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show, the entrepreneurial rapper has found learning from others’ failures is key to success in business.

“The biggest challenge is sorting out the right people.” explained 50, “People offer you a lot of information from failing situations. There’s opportunities for you to read a person’s experience as they actually fail because they are passionate about it. They articulate it in a different way. And you will see what to look for, what not to allow to get past your radar and what will be flags for you.”

The rapper acquired KonoAudio in 2011 and rebranded the company as SMS Audio after walking away from a deal with to get into the headphone business. Currently the brand sponsors Timbaland, Carmelo Anthony of The New York Knicks and the New England Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski.
