Pell Is An MC You Should Know

Editor’s note: KBX’s Bout To Know is designed to tell you who The Killer Crew believes will be buzzing in the blogosphere in the coming year. Our Bout To Know series continues with Pell.

Pell is a New Orleans native turned Jackson, Mississippi transplant after the displacement of Hurricane Katrina. “All I was able to take with me from New Orleans was the musical culture I grew up in, not my possessions, only memories and life lessons,” he says, “creating a new life from scratch teaches you resilience.” Although Pell’s sound isn’t the electrifying bounce you typically hear from New Orleans, “Est 2005” is an incredible visual that deals with some of the Katrina trauma and artistically features a crooning Pell missing his home that became engulfed in water.

After garnering a fair amount of YouTube success, Pell released his album Floating While Dreaming via Spotify, which currently has over three million streams. Pell’s balance between dreamy hooks and lyrical verses are entrancing and blogs like Complex, Pigeons and Planes, FADER, OkayPlayer and Billboard have already taken notice. “Runaway” is one of the highlighting singles from the album and Pell’s hook is ethereal while his verse is introspective. Pell has a huge hand in every aspect of his art, including co-directing his intriguing visuals and being instrumental in crafting his original production. This renaissance artist is definitely the next to know.
