Ralphie Says What We’re All Thinking With New Single “#FMX”

Ralphie-FMX-single

This is the time of the year where romance is in the air and for those of us who aren’t attached to someone else at the hip, these days can bring up memories of our ex. Cuffing season is still in full effect and Valentine’s Day just passed. Boston based singer/ songwriter Ralphie has just dropped “#FMX”, the perfect track for those of us who still have something to say to that one ex who broke our heart. The song is the first and only single from his forthcoming album, Identity, set to drop on February 29th.

“#FMX” stands for…you guessed it, “F*ck my ex”, a sentiment that’s run through all of our heads at one point or another. Indystry producers, Marco Marcel and Leam Thomas, are straight fire on the production- the first half of the track is an intricate cacophony of heavy bass, synths and pads that they manage to imbibe with a subtle rock influence. The song starts off with an infectious chant of “F*ck my ex” before Ralphie launches into all of the reasons why he created the song.

Halfway through, the coin is flipped and the song changes. The two different parts of the song represent the duality of having an ex- while you may want to forget about them, sometimes it’s hard. The second half has more of a Trapsoul vibe, with wavy synths, staccato-ed hi hats, snares and the Kill Bill siren that 808 Mafia made so infamous. “We did this before/ we’re doing it again,” Ralphie sings over the beat, “not supposed to see you no more/ but I am in your bed”. In a brief interview with KillerBoomBox, Ralphie explained his thinking behind the two part track. “Yeah sure there are a lot of reasons of why you may break up with someone,” he told us via email. “but without mentioning the good stuff it’s not a complete story…I felt the second part of the song only necessary to compliment the first part.”

“#FMX” is one of those rare tracks that manages to fully capture the entire emotional scope of having an ex, both in the songwriting and in the production. We’re excited to see what else Ralphie has in store for us when his album, Identity, drops on the February 29th. In the meantime, listen to “#FMX” below- we promise that once you listen to it, you won’t be able to get it out of your head.
