Minaj commits a “Tragedy”

Tragedy is the first response by Nicki Minaj to Lil’ Kim’s constant gnawing of what she calls “paying respect”. Last time I checked, respect was earned, not asked for.

Tragedy’s bass knocking production coupled with the “Raggedy Anne” punchline grabbed my attention immediately. From a musical standpoint, the beat was original and new, and lyrics were confident and witty.

But with so few women MCs in the industry, so-called “beefing” with other women baffles me. Whether you’re a fan of Nicki Minaj or not, she worked for the success she has now. To come out with a couple of songs, asking someone to pay homage to you lessens the power you had to begin with.

I grew up listening to Lil’ Kim but if this is a matter of choosing who’s better [RELEVANT], let the song decide for you. Take a listen to Tragedy.
