I’m sure that many of us are just ready for 2016 to be over. This year has been a trying one, for sure. Many of us struggle to maintain in a world that seems set on tearing itself apart.
We run the gamut of emotions on any given day. Anger to anguish. Protest to peace. Emboldened to embittered. Artists are unique in that they can transfer this energy into their music.
This week’s list kicks off with Boston native BIA, who lends her voice to the Black Lives Matter movement with “PSA”. Joe Budden offers his take with a freestyle entitled “Freedom”.
If you are looking for more soothing sounds, I heard “Born to Love” by Kenny Keys, (featuring Nina Rae) and my spirit was immediately at peace, if only momentarily. Pry’s “Beautiful Things” (featuring Incksalonius), also inspires a sense of zen. And you know I love anything dedicated to Black Girl Magic: Avery specifically pays homage to black women with “Melanin Flexin”.
I hope you find something in this week’s list that speaks to you. Let us know what you think using hashtag #KBXSelect.
