Michael Christmas got jokes and plenty of them. On his new project Is This Art?, the 19-year-old Bostonian explores all manner of pop culture as source material. From his women problems to his love for snacks, he bares it all with clever rhymes and consistently dope flows. And the people are listening. Last year he was included as part of XXL’s list of “15 Boston Rappers You Should Know.” and with good reason. The opening track “Y’all Trippin” is worthy of the download alone.
What makes Michael Christmas dope is that provides a different voice for Boston Hip Hop. Depending on who you talk to Boston is either the underground’s last stronghold, a haven for pop rap or a gangsta’s paradise. Christmas just lets himself be him. In a world where everyone is running from themselves you have to respect that. Add to that the fact that he can actually rap and he’s worthy of the attention coming his way.
