There isn’t much that Phonte Coleman hasn’t done in his creative career. Many know him as one of the founding members of the critically acclaimed rap group, Little Brother. Many know him now as one half of the soul/jazz/ R&B duo, The Foreign Exchange. And if not from his vast musical career, young’uns know him from his acting in (and ghost writing for) VH1’s breakout hit movie, The Breaks. Phonte hasn’t released any solo projects since his last album, Charity Starts Here, dropped in 2011. It finally looks like fans will be able to get Phonte on a musical project by himself in the form of a solo album.

Phonte’s solo LP, entitled No News Is Good News, is set to drop September 30th. 2016 is looking to be another big year for Phone. Last year, The Foreign Exchange’s album Tales From the Land of Milk and Honey dropped to rave reviews and the group is set to go on a national tour this Spring. Phonte also just announced a new project with Eric Roberson on his Facebook. Aside from music, Phonte will be writing for VH1’s The Breaks as it’s repurposed into a tv show. Hopefully, we’ll be hearing some singles or material from the upcoming LP sometime soon. Phonte hasn’t given us any clues as to what type of album this next one will be- his last album was a rap album but he’s been doing plenty of singing, vocal harmonies and scatting with The Foreign Exchange. Keep track of Phonte’s big moves via his Twitter and make sure to grab No News Is Good News when it drops this fall.
