In 2012 Flatbush-based crew Pro-Era emerged on the scene and the collective has answered the rhetorical phrase, “Where’s Brooklyn At?” The crew’s de facto leader Joey Bada$$ blazed the trail for their ascendance but these crazy ass Pro-Era Brooklyn kids have helped to re-establish the benchmark for lyrical content with athletic-style wordplay for gaining appeal amongst hip hop heads.
Pro-Era member CJ Fly has been instrumental towards the crew’s success. He first began gaining recognition on Joey Bada$$’s 2012 buzz-worthy mixtape 1999, featured on notable tracks “Hardknock” & “Don’t Front” in addition to being the most featured Pro-Era member besides Joey on the mixtape aPROcalypse. His mixtape Thee Way Eye See It dropped last year & he was featured on fellow Brooklyn emcee legend Buckshot new single with P-Money “Flute” alongside Joey. CJ’s autobiographical approach to crafting his verses, and baritone yet smooth delivery over East Coast-style jazz-looped boom-bap tracks has helped maintain the traction for the crew as they tour around the world and continue their becoming big draws for the concert festival network.
