When I was asked to help with the #KBXSelect list, I was ecstatic. I have been a music lover for years, and like to think that I have a really good ear for it. Finding good music is one thing, writing about it is a whole ‘nother issue. I can easily talk to anyone about how a particular song makes me feel, but once the pen hits the paper (or the fingers to the computer), I seem to hit a brick wall.
There is a famous quote that goes “Writing about music is like dancing about architecture.” How do you explain how a song makes you feel like street fighting without sounding weird af? Maybe, you don’t.
What we try to do is include music that induces the feels, whatever those feelings may be. Maybe J.Stories’ “Breakfast” makes you want to text an ex (musical whiskey?). Maybe Meek Mill’s “War Pain” makes you want to start beefing with light skin dudes. Maybe Kes’ “People” makes you regret not making it to Carnival this year.
