MF DOOM Gives Us A Synth Heavy Flip Of Wu Tang’s “Method Man”

MF-Doom-Method-Man-Flip

After years of moving stealthily in the shadows, Hip Hop’s favorite masked villain is resurfacing to give us more and more music. Just days after giving us a taste of “Light Years”, a track with Jay Electronica, MF DOOM returns to give us his version of Wu Tang Clan’s “Method Man”. This comes a month before the limited reissuing of DOOM’s 2004 Special Blends Vols. 1 & 2 (NatureSounds will be releasing 1000 copies on June 17th- you can pre-order your copy here).

The beat itself is a funky, synth heavy loop of The Blackbyrd’s “Love Is Love”– DOOM named his version of the track “White Willow Bark” which he included on his 2003 instrumental series of albums Special Herbs Vols. 5 & 6. While there’ve been a number of artist who have used “White Willow Bark” and rapped over it, this is the first time Metal Fingers has layered vocals over the song himself. The laid back, feel good beat paired with Method’s gritty delivery transforms both songs into the perfect reminiscent soundtrack for the summer.

While this flip isn’t a wholly original song, we’ll take it to whet our appetites until DOOM and Ghostface Killah’s long awaited album as the duo DOOMSTARKS drops. The project is supposed to be released sometime this year but knowing Doom, he may make us wait a little longer. Listen to the flip of “Method Man” below in the meantime.
