Common’s new album “Nobody’s Smiling” has a July 22nd release date but hasn’t received much of a marketing push although it’s in the hands of the Def Jam machine via No ID’s Artium imprint ran by the Executive Vice President/Co-Head Of A&R. This album will actually be about addressing the issues and troubles in Common’s hometown of Chicago as opposed to the music coming out of there which record labels typically use to profit off of the widespread violence and the “Chiraq”/”Drill music” image. The lack of buzz around this album and this video is beyond frustrating to me. What you’re about to see is Hype Williams’ visual interpretation of the Common and Vince Staples song “Kingdom”. Someone please tell Hype Wiliams that we need a follow up feature film from him, “Belly” was more than 15 years ago. Feast your eyes on this…
