Beenie Man Says He Is The King Of Dancehall

Its hard to believe that its been seven years since Beenie Man’s last album. Even with that long of a hiatus he has had numerous hits like “I’m Drinking Rum and Red Bull” that have keep him in the mix of dancehall music. Now he’s reuniting with VP records for his upcoming album.

He went by Hot 97 to speak with Ebro and Cipha Sounds about his career and new project. The convo took an interesting turn when the topic changed to the status of dancehall. The Grammy winner gave respect to various artists like Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel and Sham but explained that he when the genre gets off course he is the rutter.

“I am the balance in dancehall music. I am the king of dancehall. When the music goes sideways, there’s me. the music goes like this I gotta bring it back,” he explained. “Dancehall is not broken. Some of the artists are broken. Dancehall is still there. The followers of dancehall are still here. I’m still here. And I’m still making hit songs.”
