KBX’s Bout To Blow series is focused on the artist that Killer Crew believes will have a break out year in 2015. These are the cats that are one hit away from jumping out of the blogosphere to your playlist of your local Hot or Power or hitting the main stage at your favorite music festival.

Although he has been immersed in the music scene for over a decade,Chicago, Illinois native BJ the Chicago Kid dropped his debut album Pineapple Now-Laters in 2012 under his independent label, M.A.F.E. MUSIC LLC. Most known for collaborating with the talented rappers of TDE, BJ’s place in music became solidified after his Grammy nomination for best single for Schoolboy Q’s “Studio,” in which BJ delivered the sensational and syrupy hook. His latest mixtape, The M.A.F.E. Project, utilized his label acronym “Music Ain’t For Everybody,” was released this past November to critical acclaim. He famously covered Aaliyah’s “One In A Million,” R. Kelly’s “R&B Thug” and Jodeci’s “Feenin’” in one track and provided stunning vocals while bringing a contemporary twist to these classic records. His major label studio album to be released through Motown Records is still currently TBA, but confirmed and on the way.

Weeks ago, BJ released the visuals for his second single featuring Schoolboy Q, “It’s True” and it marked his first video through Vevo. The video affirms BJ’s incredible innovation within the R&B/Hip-Hop umbrella as his usual graceful tone switches to a warped one and he tackles heavy issues within his community. Keep your eyes open for this rising star, as his amazing singing ability, soulful influences and profound content all contribute in making BJ the Chicago Kid the next to blow.
