Elle Varner is here to remind us all that music is still capable of empowering and uplifting people with her new song “One Love”. The song was released after the unjust killing of the unarmed teenager Mike Brown by a Ferguson police officer. Varner is expressing her feelings about the situation in Ferguson on this song by singing about how the color of our skin should not determine how we are all treated.

In the song Varner sings, “But who’s to say that we can’t change and give one love, one love to everyone. And who decides that it’s not the time, to give one love, one love to everyone. Now can you imagine if you couldn’t imagine the level of violence in parts of the world that perpetually happens? “ The song make many references to many the unfair treatments of Black people/minorities and many other harsh realities that are often not discussed in mainstream music.

It’s always great to see artists making music with actual substance for and not just for commercial success. People around the world are demanding justice for Mike Brown and many other saddening causes so it’s great to see an entertainer step up and join the fight. Check out the new song here.
